Possible cause for random resets, lockups, and power-on failures!

Okay, this might just be me being a retard again, but I'll give this a try. I had LED-modded my DC, and as you can see from this pic... http://members.aol.com/cchamber37/ledfix.jpg ...you can see that I am the worst solderer in the country. I had a huge glob of solder sticking down from my job, and ...

Heh-- I'm sorry man. I think I'm PMSing or something. I really didn't mean to jump at you. From MY experiences, I'll tell you right now NEVER to trust a Radioshack employee. I think that Tandy requires every one (or most; I don't want to piss off any qualified workers, if they exist) of their employ...

In the spirit of a few more recent posts, I figured I'd post this. When I was modding my DC to have a (beautiful) blue LED, I accidentally burned off the traces on the bottom of the PCB. I am the world's worst solderer. But luckily, I do know quite a bit about electricity. Even luckier, what I did r...

Hahahahahaha-- I'm sorry to laugh about this, but those blue/clear led packs from Radioshack have "Infrared Sender/Receiver" (or something of the like) written right on them. The blue one is the receiver. It only closes the circuit when it gets an optical impulse from the infrared sender. ...

There are a bunch of Nomads at ebay (you can sign up though the dcemulation.org mainpage so this site will benefit), or you can go to Funcoland and get them. They're reasonably priced... just call around and see which ones have them in stock. >= )

The most logical way to do this would be pretty simple. Extend the ribbon and power cables from the GDROM so that there is enough slack in the wires to mount the GDROM externally into a pre-existing CD changer. Just mount the thing in. Then just wire in a switch on the changer. Simple. It would be p...

Theoretically, yes. It wouldn't be pretty, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You'd have to find a way to trigger the open/close switch and mount the GDROM correctly, but it's theoretically possible.

Just a note... be careful not to short the fan wires / leads / solder points. I did while my DC was on, got some pretty blue sparks, and thought that I had completely ruined the thing. Luckily, I just had to unplug the thing for a while and it was okay... but I wouldn't do it again.

I'm thinking that it's the same thing as a three-pin PC fan (like for CPUs). If you can find a 60mm one of those, it might work, but you'd have to mess with pins and I doubt you'd be able to find something like you want anyway. The voltage on pin 3 when it is on is +2.5V constant. Maybe that'll help...

Update!

New info! I tried running my Dreamcast without the fan. Bad idea. It didn't overheat, but it cut off before it even had time to load a game. Then I removed the orange pin from the plastic fan connector, and tried to run it with the same results. Maybe I can read the voltages whi...

Okay, I have a NTSC Dreamcast, so this might not be the same for you, but here are the values I got: Red (Bottom / 1): +5V (Positive) Blue (Center / 2): Ground (Negative) Orange (Top / 3): +150mV fluctuating / decreasing* The resistance of the fan (as measured from the red/blue pins) was a constant ...

Quick question:

I wired together one of those VGA adaptors as described by ValeraK and TheDumbAss. I wired the RGB wires with inline electrolytic capacitors (I was supposed to use electrolytic, not ceramic, right?) and the sync wires with inline resistors. That's ALL I did... and it might just be my soldering skill...
