really, why do you think that? Forgetting that 90% of the software is the same, the only differences I find are that *BSD systems are bit more Unix like (in fact are true Unix ). Each world can't exist without the other one (just do a 'man daemon' in GNU/Linux or think in all the package software ma...

Just found this site: http://www.vgmuseum.com/ , I think there's no warez inside.

I has a lot of things (game endings(a lot), cart scans, ads & some reviews). I don't know if it can be useful for the database but seems there are no stupid copyright notes at the site ;-)

Linux magazines? Where can I get those? I have never seen them at the store. I live in Spain so I don't know there. I was used to buy once a month the 'S?lo programadores Linux' and another one wich name I don't remember right now (but I'm sure it had the linux word in the name ). I had usual...

So the file is there but you can't read it from any of the computers, right? There's something bad in that image if so. From the files you have uploaded, your system seems to be ok and having errors with all the distros you have is really strange. You can ask for Ubuntu for free here: The will ship ...

You get the audio 'no such file...' on both, right? Can you look if the file libasound.so.2 is there? (from the livecd, search at /usr/lib). Try also to copy that file to another place, just to verify that is readable (for the floppy or pendrive. Mount the device, do a 'cp /source/file /destination'...

Do you get also the cloop thing?
If the 2 hardwares are giving the same problem your cd is bad, man.
The best thing that can happen with those read errors though, you can allways burn another image ;-)

before swapping the drive. From the laptop, are you getting the 'libasound.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory' when you play the audio file? If not, the file is there and is readable. ;-)

uhmm, you have enough ram. Those cloop errors at loading time in all the discs seem read errors for me. It happened something similar to one of my friends, but he had the controller of his motherboard broken (due to having a computer damaged by a lightning, this is probably not your problem ;-) ). I...

ok, now we can start reading things, I guess ;-) Well, that sound problem is simple. You just don't have installed those files or don't have permissions to them. Because being livecds, I guess that probably you don't have the packages installed (libasound is usually at /usr/lib and the programs of t...

You need to type it after login as root
If you have a pendrive or a floppy drive you don't need anything installed. Just do the same, changing the names of the devices.

For the pendrive use /dev/sda1 and for the floppy /dev/fd0 (I'm not 100% sure being fd0 for the floppy drive, but try it)

I have asked it wrong, sorry. But thats what I meant, all are live cds. Really you can do this from any kind of distro, all are livecds once you get to the console ;-) Are you posting from the same computer?. If there's is a windoze partition with a fat32 you can do this: (be careful) - Find the roo...

Is hard to think about with so little info. All those cd's are install discs, right? The problem could probably be fixed disabling some options at boot

If you can post the outputs of dmesg, lspci and lsmod we could figure something about, I guess

I don't like Illbleed too much either, but seems that is one of the best survivals we have and with an original story. Well, RE CV the best I've played by far, the rest really suck (Carrier, The Ring,...) Forgetting the rest RE & Dino Crisis, I think Alone in the Dark 4 is perhaps the 2nd better...

If there's nothing, there's no copyright, only that note provided at the website, I think. Providing a disclaimer with that note should be enough If you are on linux a 'cat file.txt|grep word' will return a couple of lines including each 'word' found in the file file.txt . An in a 'for' for all the ...

Well, having all the files in the disc, perhaps could be scanned with an script for searching inside all the files (perhaps there are some magic words for most, something that looks in all with a 'cat fileX.txt|grep copyright distribute... '? ;-) )

ok, forget it. Is impossible to ask the 1600 authors. I really doubt if they could say that material is copyrighted to them (and the same for gamefaqs) And I think putting 1600 FAQs in NesterDC is neither "a limited amount", nor "personal use". ;) The part of the amount cou...

It's the case in most of our major cities, Detroit, Saint Louis, New Orleans, DC, Baltimore...the list goes on and on. It's not so much a color issue either, its more of societal issue and many black people seem to fall into that society, however I doubt it has anything to do with their skin color ...
