Unofficial Release - Tux And Barrels 0.2

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Unofficial Release - Tux And Barrels 0.2

Post by impetus »

Not really a major announcement, and unofficial because I did this on my own without consulting Lucious (the developer).

New is demo version 0.2, which is essentially the same demo as the Easter Egg Beta (aka build 0.1.2), but with a graphical upgrade and GUI problems fixed.

If you have downloaded and played this before, there's not much new to see. I fixed a lot of the embarassing graphical problems which had bothered me before, and took out the copyrighted tux image, but the code is 100% unchanged. Meaning it's still mucho buggy. I don't know if Lucious has plans to ever pick this up again, but now I can feel at peace with myself for fixing the graphics up. ;)

If you've never played this, try it out. Be warned, it's imperfect, but quite fun!

If I might, I would suggest entering this into a certain coding contest ending at the end of the month

just to reiterate - the game is essentially the same, and Lucious (aka Bombshell) still gets all the creds for the programming and concept.

dan - I don't think this one is appropriate for me to enter in the contest, since it uses Tux (easy fix to change to BurnerO though), since it's really Lucious' work (I was just the graphics guy), and because it's very, very buggy and i have no source to fix it. ;)

i've tried to contact Lucious about updates, but he's not responded to my e-mails. If I could contact him, he might be persuaded to release the source (I think he meant to anyway but never got around to it - unless he already has and I just don't know where it is)

No problem. I just really love the Donkey Kong style game and thought it would be fun to have the complete version :) If you can pursuade him, I'd love it!

Whoa, long time boys.

Nice new GUI impetus, I dropped out of the DC awhile back to pursue other projects and some personal research in other fields. The original code was backed up on the sourceforge site a while ago a few days after, but for some reason (probably my own) was never actually added to the project page I apologize for that. The other backup I had was on my laptop with the rest of the my code and believe it or not the charger I had just died. The source was all SDL and was very nasty looking, but what can you do. Thanks to everyone who took their time to play what I created.
