Slightly OT, but wasn't someone working on a translation patch for SeGaGaGa? Whatever happened with that?

Some of my recommendations:
- Infinity Blade (beautiful slashy rpg type thing that goes on forever)
- Backbreaker 2 (american football inspired action game)
- The Blocks Cometh (Imagine you're stuck in Tetris and need to jump out)
- Chaos Rings (Square Enix 3D RPG exclusive to iPhone - expensive, but their best game in years)
- Duke Nukem 3D (port with ropey controls, but it's £0.59, and fine once you get used to it)
- Flight Control (guide the planes, think we all know this one)
- Jelly Car 3 (sorta like Locoroco, with customizable cars instead)
- Robot Unicorn Attack (like Canabalt, but cheaper, better and completely camp)
- Wolfenstein 3D (port, this game is my retro fix)
- Wolfenstein 3D RPG (I just really like this type of game. I'm a big Etrian Odyssey fan)

I also cracked and bought Final Fantasy, despite complaints about a slow battle system and comparatively high price :(

The iPhone really changed the game when it comes to pricing models. Some would argue that the games are cheaper because they're all digital downloads, and you don't get a hard copy. But really, the end result is that it's completely changed the rules for handheld gaming.

As I mentioned a few months back, I really don't use my DS any more. Part of that has just been due to a slow release schedule, but the greater truth is that it has largely been supplanted by my iPod Touch, which I have with me all the time anyway. I have a Wii and a PS3 for "larger" gaming experiences, and the offerings available for iPhone are just as good (well... there is still the issue of controls) as the vast majority of available titles for dedicated game handhelds. And many titles are the same or equivalents of the big name titles on current handhelds, generally for a much cheaper price. Even an "expensive" iPhone game does not approach what even an average game tends to cost for DS or PSP.

Of course, like I said, the big downside is that you don't get a physical copy of the game. The other potential downside is the lack of physical controls on the iPhone/iPod. Of course, the degree to which that hinders gameplay really depends on the title.

Really, I will probably be skipping the next generation of handhelds (3DS and NGP). My girlfriend very much wants a 3DS, but I do most of my gaming on consoles... and when I am on the go, the iPod Touch seems to meet my need more than well enough. I just wish there was a way to make a hard copy of my games.

I got GTA: Chinatown Wars and Lego Harry Potter (fuck you it's good) - both exact ports of their handheld counterparts - for a fraction of the PSP/DS price. And this is the only platform any major developer is ever going to have a 99 cents sale (EA, Capcom...).

I have pages of apps on my phone now, and I can see it keeping me entertained for a long time. Even more so when the next angry birds/cut the rope/cover orange comes out. Plus there's Free App A Day, web browsing, news reading etc.

I can't see myself skipping the next generation of handhelds though. I really miss proper buttons for a start, and there's so many games on DS/PSP that never made to iPhone.

I'm about to start song summoner. It is a trpg and it uses your song library for attacks (iirc I have not played it yet). I accidentally deleted all of my music a while ago so I've got to re-add it. Also, I've heard the game favors music from square/enix/square-enix games.

Some more stuff:

Giana Sisters (I think this is on the DS too, but you get 80 brand new levels, plus 32 original retro levels - best platformer I've found)

Fragger (Like Angry Birds but with grenades and people, 200+ stages for 99c)

Gravity Guy (another runner game, but with just one control - touch the screen and you flip gravity. Get's damn difficult)

Hoggy (another gravity flip platformer game, but it's cute and free)

League Of Evil (perhaps my favourite game right now, like super meat boy, and the just updated it with some ridiculously hard new levels)

Pix'n Love Rush (did anyone mention this? Retro platforming challenge, they just updated it)

Parking Mania (100 levels of parking cars, I love tedious games like this)

Finally, if anyone wants to hit me up on Game Center or Words With Friends, I'm BoneyCork.

I stand corrected, just got pizza boy - amazing platformer.
In other news, FF3 is coming next month (hopefully the DS version, I never played it), also...Minecraft at some point. Awesome.

Great. SE games are pretty expensive compared to other developers, so it'll be interesting to see if it's above or below the $10 pricepoint.

Hey, I have a great idea to increase the "Sound" of this post. May I have money and floppy disks to complete this task? I'm a level 5 Sound Engineer.

Fuck that. This was a contracted post and I'd rather get more floppys instead of spending them on this bullshit. Btw, has anybody played game #16?

iSlash is free right now. Completely shit name that made me almost overlook it, but it's a really good Jezball type puzzler with 100+ levels and no ads or in-app purchasing.

Well, I kinda ruined game dev story. I mean, I had tons of fun, but on my 2nd playthrough I was able to get a game to win the game of the year, made my own 64-bit console with bluray and get like 20+ games in the hall of fame. Anybody else have this happen?

You can name your games?

BTW The sequel "hot springs story" is out today!

http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/hot-spri ... 54559?mt=8

Not decided whether to get it yet or not. Game Dev was great because it was game development, and 59p (when I bought it). This is 4x more expensive and a theme I don't give a shit about.

I'll prob give it a try tonight or tomorrow and report back about what I think. Most of my enjoyment was from the gaming references (well, it kept the game fun anyways). Although, if this game has more depth I might end up really liking it.

edit: I really wish game dev story had leader boards for game scores and such. I just think that could add a good bit to the game (for me anyways)

edit2: Even though I've beaten the game a good few times I'm still going to get FFT when it comes to the iphone. It has been delayed soooo long, but they are saying spring 2011 now.
