50/60hz Switch (RePost)

Post by BOB_LORDOFEVIL_2001 »

PAL/NTSC Conversion Tutorial

Tools Needed:

Two Wires

Soldering Iron

Steady Hand

Patience

And a Dreamcast :) (Soz just had to put that in)

Instructions:

Take everything out of your Dreamcast until you get to the motherboard.

Now underneath the Motherboard near the TV Out Connector, There will be a bridge (R422), Solder this bridge together to force the DC to run at 60hz PAL.

If for any reason you need NTSC then you can just solder a switch here

Enjoy :)

I don't wanna be a bitch or so but the mod doesn't work woth my dc.
I have a first model PAL dc. I have it chipped with a 5-wire mod-chip. Problem was that a lot of imports would boot at 50Hz instead of 60Hz so I tried the mod described here. Are there any other things I can try?

I haven't tried it myself, but I read you can use a game enhancer called "DC-X" and it will force games to boot in 60 Hz NTSC mode.

This mod DOES NOT WORK.

Joining R422 does NOTHING. I think R424 fixes the console into a pure NTSC Signal, but its still 50Hz (And is fixed half way up the screen).

Most people say this mod doesn't work. So is there a different way to make a 50/60Hz switch for the Dreamcast?

I thought the Dreamcast outputted in 60Hz in PAL regions?
I urinated on it when I was drunk.

Most games give you the option of outputting a PAL60 signal, but the default is 50Hz.

az_bont, are you referring to PAL DC's or all of them? cuz my NTSC DC has always worked fine with my tv, unfortunately, the only game i have that allows me to switch refresh rates is MSR. and 50hz doesnt work. only 60hz. if that is the case, wtf?

sorry, just a bit confused by your post az_bont.

That hack actually only works on NTSC machines. It doesnt make it run in 60HZ, but it gives it a PAL signal. I did this on one of my chipped NTSC DC's (It means it will run Res Evil CV pal properly.

On an NTSC console, PAL games apparently skip the refresh rate setting screen and default to 60Hz, which would be outputted as an NTSC signal.

So, is there a 50/60Hz switch mod that can be done on my PAL system?

First they forgive me for my English therefore I am Brazilian!

This would function in the case of the Dreamcast to be NTSC and the TV to be the PAL?

The games would continue [bblack and white[/b]?

Thanks to all!

I tried this on my US DC a while back and, yes, it increased the resolution and changed the color to black and white, causing me to believe that it does work to turn a NTSC signal into PAL.

This is a Pal fix mod for NTSC machines that have graphical problems with some PAL games with the Older Version of the 4 Wire mod chip, Or a boot disc.

Must've been the default date when the forum was reset (or something like that) about a year or two ago.

As for bumping this in general, I think it's because Vodooo asked about it in this post
( http://www.dcemulation.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=64905 ).
