Looking for info from ages ago

Post by Kako »

Im looking for a comparison of the dreamcast cpu. I beleive their was some info on segatech, I dont know if this was the site though. I specifically remember an image of the cpu being compared as the sega cpu a square, inside a bigger square which was the ps2, inside a bigger square which was the gamecube. Im pretty sure someone else on these boards probably has a clue where to find it.

One more request while I'm on the subject, their was a ps2 vs dc article on dcemulation that has been removed. Does anyone have a link, or have a version of the article saved, I would love to go through it again.

google some of the phrases from your post ("comparison of the dreamcast cpu" and "ps2 vs dc" for example) and see what comes up.

dc proccessor maxes out a 200mhz (without overclockin)
the ps2 processor maxes out a 250mhz (without overclocking)
dc has 16mb or ram
ps2 has 8mb of ram
then there are some special rendering things the dc could do the ps2 couldnt

thats pretty much it

Fragger, you gotta give me some more information of what you remember. Maybe you'll trigger the information that someone else will know where to find.

Not exactly. The comparison was an article, and in the article, their was an image, not a chart of the cpus, but as if created in paint, one cpu inside the other showing how much processing power one cpu is in comparison to the others. Box in a box basically, with an article to go with it. I'm still doing my search for it, but if anyone knows where to find it or has it maybe even in their favorites, please send me a link.

BTW, it'll be a shame if informative pages of DC go down, I'm thinking of starting to save the pages off-line. Maybe we can create a thread and post links that will give people a heads up before they disappear.

All I remember is that there's a link to it in a post here in the forums, maybe here in the DC discussion section.

Exactly. It had DC, PS2, GC and XB.

Fragger, that was more then enough information to point me into the right direction, Thank you very much. For everyone else, here it is:

http://www.segatech.com/technical/consolecompare/

Page includes xbox, gc and dc but not ps2, which would probably have been the most important one to include

As I said, it'll be a shame if these hard to find pages completely disappear. Their should be some type of organizing in order to save these "Endangered pages"

Anyways, enjoy.

That document is very faulty. At least in the pure CPU compairisons for 2 reasons: they say they use P3 Dhrystone results found online for mips of the xbox, yet the xbox's p3 has half the l2 cache which would probably make a difference and they don't do any sort of FPU compairison, which the DC would have probably performed MUCH better in.
