It's on Slashdot. I recall someone mentioned a workaround, go check it.

... yes... because a hard reset is such a hard thing to do!

... in any case it kindof saddens me to see the Zune team taking a huge PR hit like this. I generally like the stuff they put out-- along with the team behind the 360.

... their main component is the only team I have a problem with.

Is it only the 30? Or does it affect the 80 too?

I own a Zune 80, so I guess I'm safe for now. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have to agree with MulletMan, here. I like the Zune a lot, and I hate to see them taking a PR hit like this.

I really kind of wish this had happened to one of the iPod models instead (especially since I spent about three hours last night trying, unsuccessfully, to fix an iPod Mini with a similar problem).

It's a date thing, it'll automatically pass by tomorrow. May have to let the battery die and recharge.

Embarrassing for MS though.

Mine works again... this seems like something that should have never happened though. Why did it only affect the Zune 30's though?

Word is that the Zune 30s use a different clock chip.

My ipod-mini stop working around thanksgiving, because the hard drive was broken. You can get a 4GB Compact Flash card to replace it for about $14 shipped from http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820211191. Or for about $30 you can upgrade it to 16GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820211170.

When my mine was broken it wouldn't come on and wasn't recognized by Itune or as an usb drive. Resetting it it just showed a sad face icon or a folder icon.

When I took it apart I could see the outside case was rubbing against the harddrive.

Didn't realize iPod mini's used standard compact flash cards in the internals. That makes them even more of a ripoff at the original MSRP.

Back on Slashdot, it seems they found the buggy code.

My wife's Zune had the leap year bug too. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to turn the damn thing off. The battery eventually went dead, so I charged it overnight and it went back to normal. So I just thought it was a fluke, but then I read an article about it the next day. Weird stuff.
