European Animated Movies

Post by Sicario »

I recently dug up my old Luis Royo and Boris Vallejo art books as well as my aged Heavy Metal magazine issues, and now have began to wonder, where has all the European animation gone off to? I never hear talk of it on the internet, see forums, nor here of new releases of animation coming from Europe (Save for the Triplets of Belleville). I thought maybe I simply have not kept up with it or it's been washed away by the deluge of ocularly endowed characters from Japan, either way I thought I'd throw this out on this forums as I figured this would be my best bet to get reaquainted with the scene. Anyone know?

I do imagine that, with the rise in popularity of Japanese animation, you'd have to look harder for current developments in European animation. Your best bet would be things like film and animation festivals.

I came across Masters Of Russian Animation the other day, and really want to see it. There's 4 of them, as far as I know. They're shorts, not feature-length, but if what I've seen of Russian animation is any indication, it's quite different from what we're used to coming out of the US or Japan.

And hey, whaddya know, here's a list of a whole bunch of European animations.

Also, Allegro non troppo is supposed to be very good. It's a spoof? of Fantasia. Italian.
